何故イタリアンカップルは，ラテンではなくモダンに強いカップルが多いのだろうか．その理由のヒントとなるような記述を見つけた．

初めのWho are they?のコラムから引用すると
Monica Nigro (from Italy). I started dancing Standard 14 years ago. I started competing when I was 6 years old, but in Italy it is quite different. We start with traditional dances. I was the Italian champion in traditional dances. The system is as follows: you start with traditional dances and when you improve, you can start Standard. I think that we do not have a Latin dance culture. I think there are more couples in Standard and national dances, than there are in Latin.
とある．
Monica Nigroさんがいうには，イタリアではトラディショナルダンスから始めて，それが十分にうまくなれば，Standard(モダン)を始める，とのことらしい．またイタリアにはラテンダンスの文化がないのではないか．とも言っている．
これは，イタリア人１女性の考えではあるが，文化を知っているだけに，嘘であるとは考えにくい．イタリアではスタンダード(モダン)が強い．という事実に切り込む1つの切り口ではないだろうか？
